Indus OS-World’s first truly regional operating system that’s
“Built for India & Built in India”
Custom Android versions like MIUI, CyanogenMod,ColorOS etc. are now increasing in popularity. Until now, India didn’t have a truly Indian version of Android.
Leave it behind. Say Hello to Indus OS.The true Indian Operating System for mobile phones based on Android. It supports 12 Indian languages besides English(Malayalam,Telugu,Tamil,Odia,Punjabi,Hindi,Kannada,Urdu,Assamese,Gujarati,Bengali,Marathi).
The main highlight of Indus OS is its keyboard-Indus Swipe. This is perhaps the only keyboard which can translate & transliterate(both aren’t same) the word or sentence entered. Which means that you can type in English & then convert the text to any other Indian language & vice-versa.If you swipe to right after entering a word-it’ll be translated. Swipe left-it’ll be transliterated. The Indus Swipe keyboard is patented.
Indus OS has also bypassed the hurdle of publishing regional apps by launching App Bazaar, their own app store where devs can publish region based apps. And you no longer need to give your credit card info to buy an app-App Bazaar uses Carrier billing method for purchasing paid apps. The amount is deducted from your service provider balance. And the best part is that you don’t even require an email id.
Indus OS had partnered with some top App Companies like Microsoft, UC Browser,Electronic Arts,Truecaller,CheetahMobile(Clean Master) & Kiloo(Subway Surfers) to provide apps to their App Bazaar.
The UI & its apps can be displayed in 12 languages & there’s Text-to-Speech support too, meaning that you’d hear information & messages being read out in your own language.
At the time of writing, it supports only selected Micromax smartphones, but the list will expand soon as the reach of Indus OS gets wider.
And now Indus OS has partnered with Celkon & Swipe to further expand their reach & they’re now the No.2 Smartphone OS in India, beating iOS. The parent operating system Android,is still on the top position.
This is what they have to say about themselves:
Indus OS is addressing one of the developing world’s biggest challenges – to develop technology to cater to the economic,
social and regional diversity. In our mission, we are using the smartphone as the medium to connect the digital world with
the masses. We are the first to deeply customize a smartphone experience that meets the real needs of the emerging
market’s regional language speaking citizens through innovation, simplification and localization.
Indus is headed by Rakesh Deshmukh, CEO & Co-Founder of Indus OS.
