How to use more than 4GB of RAM in 32bit Windows versions using PAE

Although 32bit systems natively do not support memory over 4Gigs, there’s a workaround to allow use of more RAM.

Mphysical address extensionost of you might have noticed that if you are using 32bit version of Windows, even if you have more than 4 GB RAM in your PC, it uses only 4 GB of it. However there is a method to make the OS use more than 4 GB RAM. The reason behind this is the Memory access of Operating systems is clculated in the format: 2 raised to power of (bit specification of your OS). ie: 2^32= 4,294,967,296 which is approx equal to 4 GB. Likewise a 64bit OS can utilize 2^64 memory for its operation. But this method can override this setting & you can use RAM more than 4 GB(if you have more than that). 

It is called Physical Address Extension.

Use these steps to get the full memory of your RAM:

1: First download Physical Address Extension Patch from here.

2: Extract the folder & copy the PatchPae2.exe to C:\Windows\

3: Open Command Prompt( Run as Administrator)

4: Type

cd C:\Windows\System32\

5:  Type

C:\Windows\PatchPae2.exe -type kernel -o ntoskrnx.exe ntoskrnl.exe

 This works for Windows 8.1 & Windows 10

6: Type

C:\Windows\PatchPae2.exe -type kernel -o ntkrnlpx.exe ntkrnlpa.exe

(Use only if you are using Windows 7. Else you should skip this step 6)

7: Now Type

C:\Windows\PatchPae2.exe -type loader -o winloadp.exe winload.exe

8: Type

bcdedit  /copy {current} /d “Windows PAE Enabled”

9: Now in the message appears after step 8, you will see some alphanumeric characters enclosed in { }. Note it down since we need it in the next step.

10: Finally, type in

bcdedit /set {now type all the alphanumeric characters you got in the above step without any mistake inside this bracket} kernel ntoskrnx.exe

This is for Windows 8.1 & Windows 10.

11: Windows 7 users type:

bcdedit /set {now type all the alphanumeric characters you got in the above step without any mistake inside this bracket} kernel ntkrnlpx.exe

 12 : Now , type:

bcdedit /set {now type all the alphanumeric characters you got in the above step without any mistake inside this bracket} path \Windows\System32\winloadp.exe

13: Type:

bcdedit /set {now type all the alphanumeric characters you got in the above step without any mistake inside this bracket} nointegritychecks 1

14: Now finally type:

bcdedit /set {bootmgr}  default {now type all the alphanumeric characters you got in the above step without any mistake inside this bracket}

This sets the default boot option to our patched version of 32bit Windows. Now reboot & select Windows PAE Enabled from boot menu & check in Control Panel–> System. You can see that it can now detect memory above 4 Gigabytes.
